Government issue B+E, HGV & PCV Updates

There have been some recent updates announced regarding new rules for towing a trailer with your car, as well as updates to the HGV & Bus driving licences and tests, both of which will come into effect from 15th November 2021. (Subject to Parliamentary approval)

The changes, which are outlined on the Gov.uk website, explain the new rules about towing a trailer with a car and the changes to the way driving tests work for HGV ‘s and Bus drivers. The updates include:

Changes for cars & trailers

  • If you passed your car driving test from 1st January 1997, you will be allowed to tow trailers up to 3,500kg Maximum Authorised Mass from 15/11/21.

Changes for HGV & Buses:

  • What you’re allowed to learn to drive & take your driving test in and how the driving tests will work from 15/11/21.

Although these changes have been announced, they do not come to fruition until 15th November 2021, and all current rules and legislation must continue to be followed.

Additionally, although we are aware of these announced changes, there have been no updates on test prices and medical requirements. We will disclose more information as soon as we possibly can!
