The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) have released their 2025 plan for their services. The DVLA explain how the business plan coincides with their four aims:
- Drive up Digital
- Be Resilient
- Deliver Great Customer Service
- Developed a Skilled, Motivated & Flexible Workforce
The DVLA explain that in regards to their digital aims, they want to “…drive up digital take-up by providing better and simpler services, making it easier for customers to transact with us and to stay legal on the roads.”
So, what does this mean for drivers and vehicle owners?
First, they will aim to dispatch applications made online for the following within three working days:
- Driving Licence
- Vehicle Registration Certificate
- Tachograph
They will also aim to dispatch the following applications by post within ten working days:
- Tachographs
- Vocational Driving Licence
Also, the DVLA will look at making decisions on medical cases within 90 working days, and will also be looking at providing planned customer service availability through their online services:
- Vehicle Tax
- Vehicle Management
- Personal Registration
- Driver Licensing Online Services
Finally, they explain that they want to “…develop systems to issue a domestic Driver Qualification Card (DQC) for the introduction of the reformed national training for Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).”
As they issue the DQC’s for the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), they want to implement a new DQC which can be distinguished between the national and international CPC, outlined in their reform.
The DVLA are also leaning into digital, and enhancing their online services further, which means better accessibility for many, and possibly shorter waiting times. They are pushing to further build the digital side, by developing new online services. This platform will allow driver to renew their licence through the Driver & Vehicles account.
The DVLA have a target to complete this by December 2024.
They will also introduce a “share my licence” service also. This service will generate a code to share with others through their account. Currently, the DVLA have a target of March 2025 to complete this new offering.
So, we can see changes happening over the coming months to push the DVLA’s new and upgraded digital services, while also reducing wait times on applications. This, along with the new online services being refined and implemented, will create a swifter process for drivers, while also providing drivers more control to share their licence data with companies.
