2 Start are Joining The Register of Logistics Instructors

The Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has announced today (Monday 4th October 2024) its support for the Vocational Training Charitable Trust (VTCT) Skills – Register of Logistics Instructors (RLI).

The VTCT skills for logistics are working as a DVSA recognised accrediting body to highlight the importance that accredited and governed training for LGVs is essential to increase training standards to make our roads safer.

The VTCT Skills encompasses three separate qualifications:

  • LGV Driving Instructors
  • Driver Training & Assessor
  • Driver Assessors

From November 2024, 2 Start will be transitioning to the RLI in the coming months for all instructors and training centres.

Although this isn’t a mandatory or legal requirement, 2 Start believe it is vital all our instructors complete the relevant training, tests, and obtain this certification to ensure high quality course delivery and standards. This then highlights that instructors have completed comprehensive training to ensure that their standards are in line with the DVSA.

Our very own Regional Training Director, Roy Chambers is already an LGV Driving instructor with the RLI, and will also become an approved RLI examiner so he can conduct examinations on the instructors training course on behalf of VTCT.

Furthering this, our Southampton depot is already accredited, with Portsmouth; Reading; Worthing & Theale pipelined to become RLI approved examination centres (AEC’s) in the coming months as well.

As part of our commitment to the new DVSA recognised RLI accreditation, 2 Start will begin transferring all current NRI Large Goods Vehicle (LGV) instructors to also be RLI registered.

As 2 Start are advocates of the new RLI standard, the company will continue to focus on this accreditation going forward across both our instructors and training centres.

So, Why are We Moving to The RLI?

The Benefits of RLI

The RLI application is at a significantly reduced cost compared to others, which is an important factor to many businesses given the current financial challenges they face, while still being of equal measure in regards to the standards required, along with being DVSA approved. This makes it instantly favourable to both businesses as well as instructors. We feel their course syllabus and structure is also better aligned with real world scenarios, which helps those comprehend the actual situations better, as they are not out of the realm of possibility.

Also, the RLI provide supporting materials and assets which benefit both students & training schools greatly when training for your certification.

A big plus for choosing the RLI is that their acceptance to recognise those who have already attained their certification through another recognised body, by offering a transfer at no cost. This will also further aid 2 Start’s consistency in being a reputable, trusted and accredited training provider.

By obtaining this certification, 2 Start will continue to show to current and prospective students that we deliver LGV training at a high standard recognised and aligned with those set by the DVSA themselves.

To begin training to obtain your RLI accreditation and become an approved Register of Logistics Instructors course, requirements include owning a valid driving licence (of Category C or C+E) for the vehicle you train in for at least three years. Upon successful completion, you will receive an approved RLI accreditation, valid for five years.

So, when you book your driver training, look for a reputable, training brand which has DVSA governed accreditation and RLI accredited instructors, all conducted at an approved examination centre.
