Course Requirements
If you’re starting with the Novice course, you don’t need any previous experience operating a Lorry Loader. This option is perfect for beginners who want to gain the skills and knowledge required to operate the equipment safely and confidently. On the other hand, if you’re enrolling in refresher training, you’ll need to provide valid proof of your current certification before starting the course. This ensures you’re staying compliant with industry standards and up to date with the latest safety procedures.
Furthermore, it’s essential that you wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) throughout your training. Not only does this keep you safe, but it also prepares you for working in real on-site environments where PPE is mandatory. By following these steps, you’ll be equipped to complete your training successfully and move forward in your role with confidence.
Ongoing Requirements
To retain your Clamshell operator certification, you’ll need to complete refresher training every five years. This not only keeps your certification current, but also ensures you stay updated on any changes in legislation and industry standards. Additionally, it helps reinforce safe and efficient working practices.
Although refresher training isn’t a legal requirement, it’s still crucial. Without it, you risk falling behind on essential skills. By completing ALLMI-accredited training, you show that you’ve met the required standards. Furthermore, your certification carries weight because it’s backed by a trusted industry body that governs the training syllabus.
In short, regular training helps you stay compliant, competent, and confident on the job.
Test Requirements
Clamshell training combines both theory and practical application. To begin, you’ll take the theory test, which requires a minimum score of 80%. This step confirms your understanding of essential safety practices and operational standards.
Next, you’ll complete the hands-on assessment. In this phase, you’ll demonstrate how to safely deploy stabiliser legs, operate the lorry loader using the clamshell attachment, and follow correct stowing procedures. Altogether, this training ensures you’re ready to operate the equipment confidently and competently on site.
Further Training
If you are using a lorry loader, and are planning to drive one in the future for work, then you must obtain your Category C licence. You may also look at gaining additional training for the other Lorry Loader attachments. We also offer a Brick Grab and Hook package which you can complete.
