Course Requirements
Anyone who is planning to operate a vehicle for hire or reward must hold a Driver’s Qualification card (DQC). This is awarded when you complete the Initial Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) training. Typically completed during your Driver Training, we ensure that you are ready for your examination by giving you insight and knowledge about the modules you will cover during your Module 4 Practical Demonstration test.
Ongoing Requirements
Once you pass your Module 4 CPC, you don’t need to recomplete this. The only requirement you have as a professional driver is to complete 35 hours of the periodic CPC in every 5-year period. This will keep your Driver’s Qualification Card (DQC) valid.
Test Requirements
You must have already passed the Module 2 Case study test before completing the Mod 4 test.
During your training & test, you will cover five topics to ensure you understand the requirements as a commercial driver:
- Loading the vehicle
- Security of the vehicle and contents
- Preventing criminality and trafficking of illegal immigrants
- Assessing emergency situations
- Ability to prevent physical risk
You must score 80% or more overall to pass. You can’t score under 15% in any topic. Each topic is worth up to 20%.
Further Training
Further training required includes completing 35 hours of the periodic CPC training, which is completed 5 years before the expiration of your Driver’s Qualification Card. You can book one 7-hour session, or a 5-day package, which encompasses the whole 35-hour requirement.
Earning Potential
Mod 4 CPC, once completed, will allow you to drive professionally. The earning potentials would then mirror those of Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) drivers, for example.

Who is this course for?
Anyone who is looking to drive for hire or reward (professionally) must complete the initial CPC training, then periodic training thereafter. You must already have completed your Module 2 CPC before booking and attending this training and test.
What can I drive with a Mod 4 Certification?
Your Mod 4 can be completed before, during or after your driver training. If you have completed your driver training and test already, then you will be able to drive professionally instantly (once you pass your Mod 4). Your DQC will not be issued until successful completion of your 3b driving test and upon your licence being updated by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA).
What will you receive upon successful completion of this course?
Once you complete your Mod 4 training and test and pass, you will receive your MOD 4 certificate of completion. You will then be sent your Driver’s Qualification Card. This will be sent to the address on your current driving licence. You must carry this card when driving a commercial vehicle once obtained. Your Mod 4 certificate is valid for five years, in which you must complete 35 hours of periodic CPC training there after, in every five year rolling period.
