If you’re thinking about becoming a qualified forklift operator, one of the first questions you might ask is, “How much does forklift training cost?” The answer depends on several factors, including the type of forklift, your experience level, and the course you choose. In this guide, we’ll break down everything you need to know about forklift training costs, course types, and why training with 2 Start gives you the best value for your investment.
Types of Forklift
Forklifts come in a range of types depending on what you wish to use it for. As a result, each type requires it’s own specific training course, here are the courses we offer here at 2 Start:
- Counterbalance Forklift: A B1 Counterbalance Forklift is the most common type of forklift truck that is used in industry today, and a popular choice. They are versatile and allow you to move loads both indoors and outdoors, and are able to stack loads at various heights. This truck type has a “counterweight” on the back of the truck, hence the name.
- Reach Truck: Reach Forklift Training is an Independent Training Standards Scheme & Register (ITSSAR) accredited. Reach forklift Trucks are primarily used in warehouses. They are used to Stack / De-stack products at greater heights. This forklift truck is also helpful when aisle widths are narrower allowing for increased storage.
- Pivot Steer: Pivot Steer Forklift training will cover how to properly manoeuvre Stack and de-stack using this Forklift Truck (FLT). The Pivot Steer falls into the P Group of Forklifts. This truck has the ability to articulate the forks, through 180 degrees.
- Truck-Mounted Forklift: Training relates to using a forklift truck which can be mounted and dismounted from a lorry. It is defined as a truck-mounted forklift/Transportable. This FLT is primarily for outdoor use only, can be driven over uneven ground and is convenient to transport from one location to another with ease.

Types of Training
Your experience level will determine what level of training you need. If you’ve never completed a forklift course before or have little training, then a novice course is our recommendation for most forklift courses. We offer shorter conversion courses for individuals who hold a forklift certificate and wish to be trained on alternative machines. In addition to refresher courses for experienced operators who periodically need to renew their certificates.
Typically, a forklift novice course is 5 days, a conversion course is 3 days, and a refresher would be a single-day course.
What effects forklift training costs?
The final cost of forklift training will depend on the type of forklift you’re training on, which level (novice/conversion/refresher), and how many students, whether you’re booking for yourself or several students. Prices are also subject to change.
- Counterbalance Forklift courses start from £240.00
- Reach Forklift courses start from £240.00
- Truck Mounted Forklift courses start from £354.00
- Pivot Steer Forklift courses start from £246.00
