We have the following courses that are CPC approved:

  • Driver Essentials – By the end of this course, students will be able to answer questions on how long they are legally allowed to drive for, the correct use of a tachograph and be aware of the working limits under the working time directive.
  • Driving Principles – On completion of this course students will be able to demonstrate a greater awareness of vulnerable road users, operating vehicles within their limits and the penalties that can be issued for noncompliance.
  • Emergency First Aid & Health and Safety – At the end of this course students will be able to demonstrate what action should be taken when confronted with someone requiring emergency first aid treatment. Students will successfully be able to identify different types of illnesses and provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Smart Motorways – Students will learn the different types of Smart motorways and their safety design features. Signs and signals and the appreciation of how technology enables traffic flow will also be covered. Students will understand how your driving attitude affects road safety. They will be able to evaluate the hazards involved in Smart Motorway driving by becoming familiar with the techniques and skills to avoid collisions and understand how weather affects driving conditions.
  • Vehicle Defects & Driver Licencing – By the end of this course, students will be able to identify the types of checks that drivers need to complete on their vehicles. They will also be able to identify the main features of the driver’s licence and understand the licence coding system. Students should also be able to answer questions on safe and fuel-efficient driving and understand techniques involved in reducing fuel consumption.

Who requires the Driver's CPC?

Driver’s CPC

All drivers who are driving vehicles over 3.5 tonnes, or with 9 Passenger seats or more are required to do the Periodic / Driver’s CPC (as well as the initial where applicable) – 35 Hours of driver CPC training every five years.

Before the course starts you will need to provide your driving licence number & once the course is finished, we will log your hours as normal.

Exemptions –

Certain drivers do not require to have the driver’s Certificate of Professional Competence  – These are either based on what the vehicle is transporting, or what the vehicle is used for. Drivers are exempt if the vehicle is:

  • used for non-commercial carriage of passengers or goods, for personal use;
  • undergoing road tests for technical development, repair or maintenance purposes, or of new or rebuilt vehicles which have not yet been put into service; (must be driven by a qualified motor mechanic)
  • used in the course of driving lessons for the purpose of enabling that person to obtain a driving licence or a Drivers CPC; (must be driven by driving instructors)
  • carrying material or equipment to be used by that person in the course of his or her work, provided that driving that vehicle does not constitute the driver’s principal activity**
  • with a maximum authorised speed not exceeding 45 km/h; (such as agricultural tractors)
  • used by, or under the control of, the armed forces, civil defence, the fire service and forces responsible for maintaining public order;
  • used in states of emergency or assigned to rescue missions.

** For example, transporting scaffolding to the driver’s place of work. Driving must not become a major part of the work. IE – The work being carried out at the site of work, must be significantly greater use of time than driving itself.

A really good four days. Learnt loads, including those extra bits that always help. Had two very friendly and helpful instructors due to sickness, but a seamless transition. Would definitely recommend and will be doing all my training there from now on.

My whole experience with 2start for the four days was simply enjoyable. Clean vehicles , excellent driving instructors there to help you to pass your test. My instructor ( Ken ) was really helpful. He pinpointed my short falls and we really worked on them during on the road practices. Thank you 2 Start for your help in passing my test I really appreciate it and would definitely recommend you to anyone out there wishing to take HGV test. Few weeks down the line I realized I needed Class 1 . Started the 5 day lessons with Neil an excellent instructor. I found the reversing quite challenging first few days but then the penny dropped and I passed on the test day . Thank you 2 start .
