This course is completed over a one-day period and is designed for those students who have a certificate between 3-5 years old. On the first day of the course, the students must be able to produce a previous accredited certificate of training. If a certificate cannot be produced a 3-day experience operators’ course will be required.
Once you have completed your training, there are three basic elements of testing that you need to pass; a theory, pre-use inspection and a practical skills test. Each one of these tests needs to be passed in order to receive your certificate.
A Counterbalance forklift truck is a straightforward forklift that allows you to manoeuvre up to the exact position of the load you are trying to move. This is because of the forks that extend from the front of the forklift. One advantage of a counterbalance forklift is that they can be used both indoors and outdoors.
It is important not to overload a counterbalance forklift because if the load is heavier than the weight at the back then the forklift can tip over.
Our Counterbalance Refresher course is available for you to complete at all 4 of our training centres, which includes depots in Portsmouth, Southampton, Reading and Worthing, which gives us good coverage of the Hampshire, Berkshire and West Sussex regions.
As well as being available to train at one of our sites, we also give you the opportunity to complete training on one of your own sites, using your equipment. The areas we cover include; Portsmouth, Chichester, Fareham, Southampton, Romsey, Eastleigh, Reading, Crawley, Newbury, Basingstoke, Worthing and Brighton. This enables the students to be training on the machines that they will be working with on a daily basis.
In order for training to completed on one of your sites, there are a few requirements that you need to meet. You need to have; a training room that is suitable for the number of candidates participating and a sufficient amount of practical training space to complete assessments and testing. Also, delegates will be required to wear PPE as per the company’s internal risk assessments.

If you complete one of our forklift courses, you will be taught by highly trained and experienced instructors, who will give you all the knowledge and skills that you need to safely operate a Counterbalance truck and pass your test.
All forklift courses are conducted under our accrediting body; ITSSAR (the Independent Training Standards Scheme and Register). Being a part of ITSSAR guarantees only the highest standard of training and testing possible.
The duration of your course will vary depending on which one you decide to complete, if you choose to complete our Counterbalance Refresher course, it will take 1-day to complete your training.
Course length could be adjusted depending on how many other students are on the same course, see below for timescales.

Completed my counterbalance forklift course with 2 Start training and I have to say their instructor (Clint) was first rate and I would recommend them to anyone looking for this kind of training.
I did my counterbalance yesterday with Joe, well what can I say? What a fantastic job/course he offered. Very positive attitude and a good atmosphere. Fantastic experience and will certainly be highly recommending this depot. Thanks.
I can’t thank 2 Start enough. The counterbalance course was quick and easy to find via the website and the training provided at the Portsmouth branch was spot on. The team are very friendly and helpful throughout
Fantastic staff and instructors. Just completed my forklift counterbalance and reach course. A really enjoyable course. Would highly recommend 2 start to anyone interested in gaining their driver quals . Thanks guys
I highly recommend 2 Start training. Due to having some spare time on my hands I decided to take some courses to improve my chances of being offered a different variety of work. I have just completed my HIAB training, ADR course, Moffett and counterbalance forklift course. I successfully passed them all. The quality and standard of training is excellent and I am planning to do my slingers course although since passing the courses I have already have had many of offers of work so will now need to find the time! Many thanks to Alan, Paul and Joe for the training and Daisy for her efficient and prompt organisation of the courses.
