Our ADR Awareness 1-Day training will cover many of the basic principles of handling and transporting dangerous goods by road.
Some who may work in warehouses may have to handle or carry dangerous goods, but do not need the full ADR certification as the amount of a certain dangerous good they carry is well below the threshold.
This course is designed to meet the needs of those who may not work with raw hazardous goods, but must understand the key principles of dealing with products which could become hazardous when exposed to another element.
Upon completing this course, you should be able to:
- Understand the importance of ADR Awareness
- Know basic emergency procedures
- Understand the importance of keeping within load thresholds
- How to store and segregate certain products which may contain a hazardous compound
- Know why it is important to properly pack and label dangerous goods

Anyone who is planning on driving a vehicle carrying dangerous goods in scope of the regulations must, by law, obtain and hold a valid ADR licence.
Those who may handle dangerous goods, or are only involved in the packing process, do not need this licence.
ADR awareness is for those who:
- Come into contact with dangerous goods, such as the packing, handling & loading process
- Are involved in the process of carrying dangerous goods, but are not in the need of a fully certified ADR training course
- Anyone who fits within the ADR exemptions
Course Overview
The ADR awareness 1-day course will include:
- Why ADR awareness is important and who does it apply to
- Health and Safety brief
- Identification of classes
- Understanding what labels are for what classes. Also being able to identify what type of dangerous good is what class
- This can also include the fire triangle and how that is important to understand.
- Emergency procedures/PPE/ Basic first-aid & fire extinguishing
- This can be from how to treat someone with burns, to how to operate a fire extinguisher and what equipment is needed in the building to help prevent the spread of a dangerous good becoming hazardous to individuals.
- The load threshold and limited quantities
- What these are identified as and why they are important
- Instances if the load threshold is exceeded
- Understanding how certain products mixed together could become dangerous/harmful to the environment/others
- This will show common household products that, when combined, can cause corrosiveness, explosion, toxic gas etc.
- Could also reference HSE classifications, which details how medicines and cosmetics tend to have small quantities of dangerous goods.
- Storage & segregation rules
- See HSE- Segregation of hazardous materials
- Also relating to the 800ml / 80cm legal requirement between pallets.
- Also the difference of palette sizes- (A euro palette is 800mm wide, whereas a UK palette us 1000mm wide)
- Understanding the importance of properly packed and labelled dangerous goods
- What these are identified as and why they are important
The end of the training will result in a test given to the students, who upon completion, if passed, will receive a certificate of competence to show that they have recognised the training and can implement their learning when needed.

I had my C1 test with 2 Start through my workplace and my instructor Paul was incredibly helpful! He was very patient with my learning and demonstrated the C1 tests very professionally and clearly. The instructor made me feel at ease from the start of the course, he was easy to get along with and was very knowledgeable. At the start of the course I found all the information that I needed to learn very over whelming but as time went on it all started to fall into place. I really enjoyed the course and would happily recommend it to anyone else looking to train. The only negative I have is that the classroom was a little small for the amount of people in it, otherwise all was great 👍

I had an absolutely amazing experience with the Southampton depot last week achieving my B - C+E licence. Week 1 spent with Janet who has a wealth of knowledge and although I was in the rigid she was giving me advice for the artic the week after. The 2nd week was spent with Dave and again someone with a wealth of knowledge. After having a wobble day one reversing he found a tactic that suited me better and I cracked it first time every time the day after. Dave also instilled the belief into me that I could pass my test quite easily if I just remember everything he told me. 2 absolutely brilliant instructors. I would also like to thank Dell for keeping me calm for my Mod 4 and also Trev for doing the same with my reversing exercise. They also gave me a lot of advice in the reception area whilst I was waiting which is invaluable. I cant forget to mention Marcus and John for their little bits of advice too. I will see you all again hopefully when I need CPC training. Many thanks again to you all.

Really professional and efficient outfit, staff were very helpful, despite being a compressed course due to DVSA shortages 2 Start Ltd ensured I was test ready for my C+E and I passed first time. Vehicles are high spec and well looked after and I felt the staff were all also very happy working for 2 start. I will endeavour to return in future for CPC training and ADR. Not local to me but I will make the journey as it would be worth the trip. Credit where credit is due 5* from me for 2 Start Ltd. Keep up the good work : )

I did my Cat C here on behalf of the company I work for on the 22nd July for a week and passed first time. They really are an amazing company, very friendly staff and they teach you the correct way. I had a really good time with Roy C from 2Start learning how to drive a rough terrain forklift. I thought I had quite a lot of driving experience but learning to drive the rough terrain forklift was one of the most challenging thing I have done for a while. Ray C is a great teacher and simplified the complex process of lifting and moving objects with the forklift by breaking down the various tasks contained in the test into manageable sections so that it was easier to learn. I highly recommend 2start Training and Roy C as a great instructor.

I went on a C+E training course here and found all the instructors very helpful and friendly, the two instructors who trained me were John and Marcus who were really helpful, knowledgeable and easy to get along with. I would recommend this centre to anyone looking for training.

I did a C+E training course with another training company and managed to get only my 3A, I received a phone call from 2start and I explained them my situation and how I only needed my 3B to become fully qualified, I was booked in to the Otterbourne depot 4 days later and I am very happy that I passed first time!Big shout out to Dave who I had on my first full day, he was really clear on what I needed to improve on whilst keeping it simple to understand. Then on the day of my test I had Marcus who was really chilled and kept my nerves down which allowed me to focus on what I needed to do. Thanks a lot guys, I now have my Lorry license 👍👍👍

Completed my counterbalance refresher course with instructor Gary, I've been doing this course for many years but my first time with 2 Start, Gary was professional, patient and most of all made me feel at ease when I hit a learning block (some parts of the course i struggle with due to my learning issues) but with patience and encouragement Gary me got there and explained everything logically and encouraged free though.My colleague completed his course at the Portsmouth branch and we would both highly recommend either site. A very good course which took me from a car driver to C+E in two weeks. The first week the instructor was Trevor who introduced me to the truck, driving, reversing and coupling and uncoupling. The second week the instructor was Dave who really got into the driving detail with concise instructions on the road whilst giving tuition. Two excellent insrtuctors thsnk you to both and 2 Start

I've Just finished my Cat C training,it was a great experience and I passed first time! I had a fantastic instructor, the youthful but knowledgeable and informative Marcus who took me under his wing and made a potentially stressful week a lot more fun. He's easygoing but not afraid to put his foot down (no pun intended!)if necessary. CPC training was conducted by Dave,another great bloke.The whole team are very friendly and put people at ease from their first step through the door.

I have been here before for my mod 4 months ago and ever since then I’ve always felt so welcome. It’s such a professional environment with some amazing and friendly people who want nothing less than you to succeed. I dont even know where to start. I was lucky enough to get 2 of the best dudes you can ever wish for in this industry! John and Marcus are absolute legends, the way they teach and pass on their experienceand knoladge to you is second to none.Both of them are professional, friendly, chatty and yet they still manage to keep you focused and relaxed throughout your lesson. They make you feel comfortable behind the wheel so you can concentrate more on driving. Listening to their tricks and tips, trusting their words helped me pass my "C" for first go. I cannot be thankful enough guys.I'd mention the other instructors I've met aswell as they were nice too. When you step in the office it feels more like a family run place. I passed my Class 2 test first time. I could not have done this without the help of my instructor Marcus. He genuinely was a brilliant trainer and made me feel so relaxed throughout all my lessons. The whole team there are so welcoming. They have good banter and the whole environment feels like a great place to work.

Had my C plus E refresher with this company. Hadn't driven for a few years so was feeling nervous. But soon put at ease . By my instructor Dave Monk . Who was a wealth of knowledge. Each lesson and instruction was very clear and professional. Dave soon got my confidence back out on the road . And has given positive feed back to take my HGV career forward.
What a great experience- I have just finished my training here and I was really impressed- Charlie took my lesson and had a great deal of knowledge that she shared during the class and really made me feel at ease. Charlie has a great outlook and way with people that put me at ease from the outset - 10/10 would recommend.

Pass my C+E first attempt with the greatest instructor I could ever wish for. Like many of us picked up a number of bad habits, After driving cat C for a little while. Being as I am, and Unless you have an instructor that teaches and backs up with the theory behind it, I would definitely not make it. I was allocated Instructor Martin Keen who was very professional and extremely knowledgeable. I particularly enjoyed the constructive criticism and feedback of the errors of my ways and techniques of driving as I progressed through the course, which I took on board and on my test day I was well ready and confident in passing. which I then passed my practical C + E driving test. Happy with this company.

I can’t recommend 2Start highly enough, I did class 2 training and test with them and then Class 1 training and test. Janette was very patient and professional during my class 2 and likewise Adam was to during my class 1. Both instructors put me at ease which made for a great week of training. Due to my own stupidity I failed my first test on both classes but I went back for second tests and Martin took me to them, again very calming and professional. Great company, nice vehicles to learn in.

The staff are friendly and easy to get along with, which helped ease me into learning at my own pace. All the instructors were experience drivers with many years in professional industries. I have managed to complete my Cat C and Mod 4 with the company, with ease. The website is easy to navigate with multiple ways to communicate with the adviser team based in Portsmouth. Also having prices available to view beforehand makes it easy to see how much money will likely be required, and when talking to Jack (adviser) it was all streamlined, quick and with no forceful selling like I had experience with other companies.One thing to note is they do not guide you through the theory process as this will be something you will need to prep for and complete prior to practicals, however there are a lot of material available online and in the DVSA books (recommend "The official DVSA guide to: Driving goods vehicle" a lot of useful information).

I had my Clint K as my instructor for the week and he settled my nerves and don’t have nothing but good things to say about him. Thank you for giving me the training and getting me that pass. 5* D1 Minibus Training2* Customer CareJust passed my D1 test after 3 days of training with Clint at the Theale Depot. His tuition, knowledge and manner were faultless! I can't recommend him enough!Unfortunately the experience prior to the course was very negative. Of the four day course I was only notified of my start time on the first day, 7am. After that first day I was then notified of subsequent times that I would be required and for how long, this varied from full days (7am-5pm) to a 3/4 hour blocks e.g.12-4pm. I did notify the company 3 times prior to the course starting that I have 2 children and I was expected to find childcare and someone to take them to and from school less than 24hours notice. Unfortunately they were not helpful or flexible in the slightest.
Roy and the rest of the staff at 2 Start are so kind and full of knowledge. Roy delivered my NRL. His way of teaching me was very good he spent a lot of time to help and assist to get to the required stranded required. (This review is being written as I wait for my results.). Would strongly recommend 2 Start to anyone that is looking to attend there NRL course.

I have just completed a morning C+E refresher training with 2 Start and I must say I was very impressed. I explained I am returning to driving after a 9 year break and was immediately asked which areas I wanted to cover, therefore tailoring the lesson to my specific needs.The instructor (Roy), was knowledgable and gave good feedback throughout, explaining the reasons for his comments.The vehicle (a nearly new DAF) was clean and very smart.At the end of the lesson we had a debrief and I was invited to contact them again in the future - even if it was just for advice over the phone.It is so refreshing to deal with a professional, friendly and helpful business.If you’re looking for LGV/PCV or CPC training I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending 2 Start.

I was trained by 2 wonderful trainers at 2 Start. They were so supportive, and both gave me their form of training, which made it better for me to get through my test. I had 4 days of training and enjoyed every single minute of it. The vehicles are really nice to drive, clean, in good condition.I was treated with respect and kindness by everyone there and I found it a pleasure to go every day.The only thing I found wrong with the whole 4 days, is the toilets were awful they needed cleaning and there was no toliet paper or hand soap.But apart from that I would 1000% recommend this driver training company to anyone.I would also like to thank both gentleman who got me to and through my training.

Great week training with 2 Start Ltd (Worthing). Would definitely recommend!! Jon my instructor was a great guy patient, professional, and with a sense of humour to help ease the stress of learning to drive a (Class 1) HGV. With his knowledge and expertise I was able to pass my 3A (Coupling and Uncoupling) test. Unfortunately, I was not able to attempt my 3B (driving test) due to it being cancelled because of the DVSA strikes. But over all, great company to train with.
Just passed my C+E first time with no minors thanks to Pauls extraordinarily proficient tuition.Everyone I dealt with, from initial enquiry up to my test day, were professional, friendly and knowledgeable. Well kept modern vehicles too.My only regret is I didn't do this years ago. If you are thinking about upgrading your licence, just go for it. You won't go wrong with 2Start Ltd

What a great team they have in Worthing. Having only driven up to a van I did the 2 week fast track car to C+E course. Instructed by both Greg & Paul who helped me improve every day with great humour. I ended up passing first time.Highly recommend.
I’ve just passed my test and I have to say that 2 Start were fantastic throughout the whole process. The whole team are incredibly friendly and professional however I need to give a special thanks to my instructors Rob and Paul. They have provided excellent training and helped me feel confident with my driving ability. I’m eager now to get back on the road again. A first class company which I can't recommend highly enough. High quality equipment which is always clean and maintained to a high standard. Paul is an excellent instructor who inspires confidence and trust. He has a good instinct for identifying your strengths and weaknesses, and giving appropriate instruction where needed and encouragement. I completed a 2 week car to C +E course, All the instructors were very knowledgeable and professional, and gave me the tools to become confident with the vehicle, their ongoing advice and critique allowed me to pass my C +E, thankyou to all the worthing branch staff.
Absolutely well impressed with these guys, purely professional throughout, will drum it into your head that we are the professional drivers on the road and safety at all times is key. Greg I would like to thank you personally for teaching me this whole week, if not for your absolutely professionalism and driving skills, I may of came out today with a fail so thank you and the company as a whole. I would highly recommend anyone who is considering taking there driving skills to another level give theses guys your time as you would not be disappointed.

Brilliant team, I had Robert W for when I was in the rigid, brilliant instructor and for funny, made the experience Brilliant and he certainly set me up well for when I moved on to the artic the following week.I did my mod 4 CPC training with Rob C, he knew his stuff and made sure that I knew what I was doing, he made sure I was ready to pass my CPC, which I did.I had Jon as my instructor for the artic, he is brilliant, very interesting man and you'll certainly learn a lot if he teaches you. I passed both my on road and off road tests due to Jon's training.I would certainly recommend doing your class 1 and 2 of your licenses with this company, and any other courses that they have to offer.
Passed my class 2 today thanks to Greg fantastic instructor, he was patient, professional and made the whole experience a breeze. Hopefully will be back soon for C+E! I would highly recommend 2start, all the staff were pleasant, welcoming and professional.
Massive thanks to the whole team, especially Rob and John, the training was spot on, I can't believe iv past everything first try, really wasn't expecting to due to nerves etc but with the continuous help, support and feedback iv managed to grab me a class 1 licence , two weeks ago I was a van driver and now with their help many more doors have been opened.Can't thank the entire team enough , great teaching/ coaching styles and each trainer had something diffent to bring to the table.Thanks again everything , I'm over the moonWas an absolute pleasure and I would recommend your company to anyone interested in developing their career.
