Course Requirements
If you’re planning to complete the Novice course, you don’t need any previous experience operating a Lorry Loader. This course is designed for beginners.
However, if you’re enrolling in refresher training, you must show proof of your current certification before you can begin. Make sure your existing certificate is valid and up to date.
You must also wear appropriate PPE during your training. This includes safety boots, a high-visibility vest, a hard hat, and gloves, depending on the site requirements.
Ongoing Requirements
Typically, you will be permitted to complete the refresher training for the Hook attachment every five years. Although, we understand that requirements can change. So, we also offer a brick grab and hook package.
Test Requirements
To operate a Lorry Loader with a Hook attachment, you must complete both a theory and a practical test. First, the theory test covers essential knowledge about safety standards, regulations, and correct procedures. Then, the practical test allows you to apply these principles in real-world scenarios.
By completing both tests, you’ll gain a full understanding of the legal and safety requirements for using a hook attachment. As a result, you’ll be better prepared to operate the equipment confidently and responsibly.
During the practical assessment, you’ll be tested on the safe and controlled movement of the hook attachment. This includes tasks such as manoeuvring, picking up, and placing cargo accurately. In addition, you’ll demonstrate your ability to work safely in different site conditions.
Overall, the combined theory and practical training ensures you meet industry standards and can perform your role effectively. Whether you’re new to lorry loaders or expanding your skills, this training is a key step in becoming a safe and compliant operator.
Further Training
If you plan to drive a lorry loader between locations, you’ll need a Category C licence to do so legally. You can also train for other lorry-mounted crane attachments, such as a Brick Grab or Clamshell.

Who is this course for?
Training for the Lorry Loader Hook attachment is designed for those who plan to operate a lorry-mounted crane with this specific accessory. If you’re using a different type, such as a Brick Grab or Clamshell, you’ll need to complete a separate training course tailored to that equipment.
This distinction matters because each attachment functions differently and requires unique handling techniques. As a result, the training must align with the specific safety procedures, controls, and operational standards of each accessory.
Therefore, it’s important to enrol in the correct course based on the attachment you’ll be using. By doing so, you’ll receive the right instruction and ensure you’re working safely and in compliance with industry regulations.
What can I operate with an ALLMI (Hook) Certification?
As a result of the training, you can operate a Lorry Loader Hook attachment to safely lift and move goods.
What will you receive upon successful completion of this course?
After completing the course, you’ll receive an Operator ID and a certificate of completion. These confirm you’ve trained and passed for the hook attachment on a lorry-mounted crane.
Together, they show you’re qualified, compliant, and ready to operate safely on site.
