At 2 Start Training we are a fully approved logistics training centre which operates across the south of England covering Brighton. We operate and provide our services from three main sites, Southampton, Portsmouth, Reading and we have a new facility opening in Worthing which is accessible for those in Brighton.

We have proudly provided customers with high quality, professional service since 2009 in all aspects of HGV (LGV) training, from the arrangement of our driver’s medical tests to licensing. The official classification has changed from HGV TO LGV within the industry, and we understand this may be confusing for new learners so if you’d like to find out more please feel free to click the link below for further information.

1. The LGV Application Process

To begin the process of becoming a LGV/HGV driver you will need to acquire a provisional entitlement and complete a drivers medical exam where you will be assessed on things such as eyesight. These examinations are standard requirements for the majority of driver training courses. Its essential for us that these medicals go as smoothly and stress free as possible so our team can arrange LGV 2 application medicines with local practitioners. Please bring a copy of the completed D4 medical application when you attend your medical (see form below.)

In addition to this form, you must also complete an application for a provisional C license, which we will send to you. Please send it off with your current driving license and D4 medical form in the DVLA envelope we provide.

2. LGV Theory Test

After you’ve obtained your medical examination and provisional entitlement you will begin preparation for the two theory tests. Like a standard driving test there will be the main theory test and hazard perception. To pass these tests you must get at least 85/100 on the theory and 67/100 on the hazard perception. To receive your personal log in details, call our office on 0118 402 1861.

At 2 Start Training we understand that practise is crucial and will highly increase your chances of passing. With this in mind, we offer access to online practise theory test software to maximise the chance of passing first time. If you passed your car test after 1st January 1997, you must sit the CPC case studies test which will be held where the original theory tests are held at your local DCA Centre.

3. Providing Expert HVG/LGV Training to Learners from Sussex

Our friendly team are dedicated to helping you choose the best course that will suit your needs, so we will discuss all of this with you. Courses generally occur between Monday-Friday, but testing can take place midweek or on a Saturday if this is more suitable for you. You can only begin your practical LGV driver training once your theory tests are passed successfully.

The training sessions will occur over a five-day period with the sessions beginning at 07:00, 10:30 and 14:00. These sessions are led with a one-to-one instructor over a three-and-a-half-hour period or a two-to-one instructor over a seven-hour period. This means our instructors have plenty of time to completely judge and teach all drivers on various test routes and practise exercises needed to pass your test. If you obtained your original driving license after September 1997 will need to place their initial CPC before they can drive for hire and reward. Learn more about the CPC.
