What is CPC training?
The Driver Certificate of Professional Competence is additional driver training with the aim of encouraging high driving standards and safety. You must complete both theory and practical tests and needs to be repeated every five years to remain valid. The training will take 35 hours. If you drive professionally without a CPC you can receive a penalty of up to £1,000.
Why train with 2 start?
- We are constantly investing in our machines to ensure we continue to provide the best vehicles for our customers.
- We have hundreds of happy previous customers and currently have a 4.9 rating on Google.
- It’s easy to say that we are the ‘Premier Driving School’, but the proof is in the facilities offered and the results obtained by our students.
There are two stages of the theory test which you can do in any order. You need to pass an hour and 55-minute multiple-choice test with 100 questions. You need to achieve at least 85% to pass. There is also a hazard perception which involves watching 19 video clips where you need to successfully identify 20 hazards. You must achieve 67% to pass. These two tests must be completed within 2 years of each other or you have to complete them again.
There is also a test on case studies. You must look at 7 scenario based questions which have been developed by industry experts to reflect situations you might be in as a driver. There will be 6-8 multiple choice questions to answer. This test will last an hour and 55 minutes and you need to achieve 80% to pass. This will be valid for 2 years and you must complete your Driver CPC module 4 practical demonstration in this time.
Next its time for the practical. You must complete vehicle safety questions, practical road driving and off-road exercises to show your skills as a driver. This will last for an hour and 30 minutes.
The last part of the assessment involves the learner showing different operations needed aside from actually driving. This includes safely loading the vehicle, prevention of trafficking illegal immigrants, the assessment of emergency situations and a full vehicle safety check.
Do I need CPC training?
You won’t need to complete CPC drivers training if you simply do it as a hobby. Have a look at our full list of exceptions here. You must have a CPC qualification if you drive a lorry, bus or coach for the predominant party of your job. Any drivers who are driving vehicles over 3.5 tonnes, or with 9 passenger seats or more are legally required to do the Periodic/Driver CPC (as well as the initial where applicable) – 35 hours of CPC training every five years.
Once you’ve completed your training you will receive a DQC qualification in the post. It’s crucial you carry this with you at all times as proof of your competence. If you are driving in any other EU country for work you must also have this with you and the government have confirmed that Brexit will make no change to these regulations. If you are caught without your DQC qualification you could receive up to £1,000 in fines.
If you’re DQC is stolen or lost you need to notify the DVLA as soon as possible and apply for another one. You are still able to drive however if you haven’t received a replacement after 15 days it’s important to look into the matter further.
